It is used for kidney and liver diseases, activates the motor and secretory functions of the intestines. Useful for joint diseases
Common juniper (JunĂperus commĂșnis, Veres)

Juniper berries contain essential oil (0.5-1.5%), which includes pinene, camphene, terpinene, fellandrene, etc. The fruits contain sugars (up to 80%), organic acids – acetic, formic, apple, resin , wax, yellow amorphous substance uniperine and mineral salts.

Juniper berries are used as a diuretic, disinfectant of the urinary tract (for kidney diseases, stones and sand in the kidneys, liver diseases), as well as an expectorant and improving digestion.

Juniper is useful for joint diseases, as the juniper fruit has strong diuretic properties. Thanks to the essential oil, the main component of which is terpeniol, juniper quickly relieves inflammation, is effective in the deposition of salts and will be useful for people suffering from sciatica, arthritis and other diseases of the joints and musculoskeletal system.

Preparations from juniper berries, taken internally, moderately irritate the mucous membrane of the alimentary canal, activate the motor and secretory functions of the intestines, the released essential oil acts antimicrobially, inhibits fermentation processes, relieves sphincter spasms.

The essential oil secreted by the kidneys irritates the parenchyma of the kidneys, which causes a pronounced diuretic effect of preparations from juniper berries.

In a small amount, juniper essential oil is secreted by the bronchial and sweat glands, acting as an expectorant and slightly diaphoretic. There is evidence that juniper berries slightly increase milk production in lactating women.

The juniper is useful for scrofula and fever (like diaphoretic). Topically used for scabies, rheumatism and gout as a pain reliever: rub in juniper oil or tincture or take aromatic baths not only from berries, but also from young stems.

In folk medicine, cone-berries are brewed and drunk for diseases of the kidneys, bladder, kidney stones, liver disease, edema as a diuretic and strengthening the stomach.

It is necessary to take into account the irritating effect of berries on the parenchyma of the kidneys, therefore, they are contraindicated in acute nephritis.
